About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Professional / Paralegal to support a federal healthcare program focused on hearing and appeals operations. This position involves legal reviews, medical record analysis, and policy interpretation related to healthcare claims, provider disputes, and program compliance.
The ideal candidate has experience in legal writing, administrative or healthcare law, and policy analysis, with a demonstrated ability to draft legal briefs, memoranda, and case summaries in a government or regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct legal reviews and draft legal briefs, memoranda, and case summaries supporting hearings and appeals.
• Perform medical record reviews to assess evidence and compliance with program regulations.
• Support policy analysis and regulatory interpretation by researching statutes, federal rules, and administrative decisions.
• Collaborate with auditors, analysts, and legal reviewers to identify discrepancies and strengthen case documentation.
• Manage documentation within a case management system, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
• Assist in preparing pre-hearing documentation, issue statements, and decision drafts.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, Section 508, and information security protocols.
• Participate in quality assurance reviews and support process improvement initiatives across the appeals workflow.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in law, Legal Studies, Health Policy, or related field (Paralegal Certification preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in legal writing, case documentation, or healthcare compliance.
• Strong understanding of legal terminology, regulatory frameworks, and administrative law.
• Experience analyzing medical or audit records for legal and compliance sufficiency.
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Preferred Experience
• Prior experience supporting a federal agency, healthcare contractor, or government program.
• Exposure to federal appeals processes, provider reimbursement, or audit review workflows.
• Experience in policy analysis, legal research, or program integrity documentation.
• Understanding of federal healthcare regulations and administrative procedures.
• Active or eligible for Public Trust clearance.
